Ground hydrology and water resources for monsoon climates - WP3000

Partners involved: CEH (lead contractor), LMD

The aim of this work package is to develop methods of assessing the impact of natural and anthropogenic climate change on ground hydrology and water resources for monsoon -affected countries.

Some achievements so far:

  • the Global Water Availability Assessment method (GWAVA) has been used to develop a sophisticated hydrological model for West Africa.

  • data have been collated for testing this new hydrological model and a new high resolution soil classes data set has been obtained and its being adapted for the West African region

  • a Global Land Surface Model has been developed to study the hydrological budget over India.

  • a new river routing scheme has been developed and tested in India. Preliminary results show good agreement with observed monthly data
