The aims of PROMISE are to improve understanding of:

  • the potential for seasonal prediction and the benefits that would accrue in terms of the management of water resources and agriculture

  • the impacts of anthropogenic climate change on tropical countries, in particular on the availability of water resources for human use, and on the productivity of crops and the potential changes in the natural vegetation

PROMISE brings research in meteorology, hydrology and agriculture to bear on these problems. The way that the different fields of research interact within the project is illustrated by the following flow chart:

PROMISE research is divided into discrete sections (work packages). Yearly targets (milestones) were set out for each of the work packages in the original PROMISE proposal. Click on the links below for details of the work packages.
